Cosmic Connections and Occult Practices
In 1945, Jack Parsons—an influential figure in American rocketry and a co-founder of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory—embarked on a series of occult rituals aimed at invoking the Thelemic goddess “Babalon”. A devotee of “Thelema”, a spiritual philosophy developed by the renowned British occultist Aleister Crowley, Parsons created a magical commune in Pasadena, California. Here, he gathered like-minded individuals to live, collaborate, and engage in various rituals, including forms of sex magic. Among them was science fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard, who would later establish Scientology. Parsons remarked on Hubbard’s capabilities in ritual magic, suggesting he had contact with a higher intelligence or guardian angel.
The two formed a close friendship and magical partnership to summon the spirit of Babalon, a deity representing sex and love, into a world ravaged by war. Kenneth Grant, another disciple of Crowley, later reflected on the significance of their rituals:
“The working began in 1945-46, shortly before Crowley’s death in 1947, coinciding with what’s now remembered as the ‘Great Flying Saucer Flap’… Parsons opened a door, and something came through.”
While the notion that Parsons was the origin of UFO sightings is absurd, one must ponder whether the ceremonies conducted in the Mojave Desert could have somehow stimulated an increase in UFO activity in the vicinity.
Accounts of UFO encounters often include an intriguing connection to sexuality. Numerous reports exist of individuals engaged in intimate activities who subsequently experience sightings or interactions of a bizarre nature. Researcher John Keel extensively documented incidents involving strange lights, objects, and beings witnessed during nighttime rendezvous in “lovers’ lanes”.
Furthermore, contactees and abductees commonly describe experiences involving medical procedures with sexual implications, as well as both consensual and coerced encounters with non-human entities.
A notable example comes from the account of Antonio Vilas Boas, who was forcibly taken aboard an unidentified craft that landed on his family’s farm in Brazil in 1957:
The Succubus
Boas recounted that he was left alone for about an hour on a large, featureless couch made of foam rubber. He felt an initial wave of nausea, followed by a sense of suffocation. After vomiting, he felt relief. Eventually, a door opened, and a naked woman entered.
Boas described the woman as silently approaching him, seemingly wanting something. Engaging with her, he stated, “I began to get excited… I held the woman close, reciprocating her advances.” Their encounter lasted an hour, with multiple intimate experiences shared. In the end, the woman, after gesturing to her belly and smilingly indicating the sky, left the chamber.

What other “magical” links might we uncover in reports of UFOs and related phenomena?
Prophetic Encounters of Lanulos
On November 2, 1966, Woodrow Derenberger, a sewing machine salesman, had an astonishing encounter while driving along Interstate 77 near Parkersburg, West Virginia.
As he drove, he observed an unusual craft approaching rapidly from behind. It hovered just above the road and blocked his path. Derenberger described the object as charcoal gray, resembling an old-fashioned kerosene lamp on its side. Upon closer inspection, a man emerged from the craft, described by Derenberger as around six feet tall, with a tan complexion, dark combed-back hair, and dressed in a shiny, navy blue suit
This post delves deeply into the intriguing intersection of the occult and the phenomenon of UFOs, positing a connection that is both fascinating and complex. The historical and cultural references to figures like Jack Parsons and Indrid Cold illustrate how these encounters have often been intertwined with magical and mystical frameworks.
One significant aspect highlighted is the concept of ritual magic and its potential effects on the UFO phenomena. The idea that Parsons’ rituals could have “opened a door” to increased UFO activity in Southern California raises questions about intention and the limits of human understanding when it comes to affecting the environment through spiritual means. It prompts us to consider whether these events are truly coincidental or if there is some underlying connection that we are just beginning to grasp.
The recurring themes of sex and intimacy in UFO encounters, particularly in stories of abductions and contact with non-human entities, further complicate the narrative. The relationship between sexuality and the spiritual realm has been a longstanding topic in various cultures, suggesting that these encounters might be resonating with ancient archetypes of creativity, creation, and transformation.
Moreover, the connection to Native American legends and curses adds another layer of depth, prompting us to reflect on how historical injustices and ancestral memories may influence contemporary experiences of the paranormal. The idea that the Mothman could serve as a totem of warning, tied to the tragic events of the past, raises essential questions about how history and folklore intertwine with our perception of spiritual and extraterrestrial phenomena.
Ultimately, this exploration into the “magical” nature of UFOs suggests that we may be on the verge of understanding a more profound connection between humanity and the cosmos—one that goes beyond materialism and opens the doors to collective myths, cultural archetypes, and the mysteries of existence itself. It invites us to engage with these topics not just as mere observations but as rich narratives that mirror our deepest fears, desires, and ever-evolving quests for meaning in an enigmatic universe.
What do you think about the idea that our encounters with the unknown could be a manifestation of our collective psyche? Can cultural history play a role in shaping current phenomenon like UFO sightings?
