OG UFO documentary which you may find amusing

Nostalgic UFO Documentary That Might Make You Laugh

Years ago, long before the internet and possibly even before cable TV, there was a scarcity of UFO-themed content for a suburban teen like me. I recorded this documentary and watched it obsessively—probably around 100 times! It’s a charming relic from its time, featuring many ideas that have since been debunked but still possesses a certain innocent appeal.

Check it out here!

Even now, certain moments stick with me vividly. One that really stands out is a quote from Senator Barry Goldwater. In the 1950s, he asked tough General Curtis LeMay if he could see any UFO files he had. LeMay’s response? “Hell no. And don’t ask me again.”

I also think that footage of Mac Brazel has been repurposed countless times, and he definitely appears a bit bewildered in it.

And how could I forget this hilarious comment from Bruce Maccabee, who sadly passed away last year: “…they are not mating mutton-birds…”

  1. Thanks for sharing this nostalgic post! It’s amazing how UFO documentaries from that era have their own unique vibe, especially given the lack of widespread information and the internet. That quote from Barry Goldwater is a classic—definitely adds a layer of intrigue and a bit of humor to the whole UFO discourse. It really captures the military’s often secretive nature around such topics.

And it’s true, Mac Brazel’s footage has become iconic in the UFO community—there’s something so relatable about his confusion in those interviews. Bruce Maccabee’s comment about the “mating mutton-birds” is a great example of how some researchers brought a lightheartedness to the subject, which can often become very serious and conspiratorial. It’s funny how these little moments stick with us over the years. Thanks for the nostalgia trip! I’ll definitely check out the documentary.
