Nostalgic UFO Documentary You Might Enjoy
Years ago, long before the internet and even before cable TV, there was limited UFO content for a suburban teenager like me. I recorded this documentary and watched it about a hundred times! It’s a charming relic of its time, filled with debunked claims yet still holding onto its innocent appeal.

Certain moments have stayed with me over the years. One that I distinctly remember is a quote from Senator Barry Goldwater. He recounted how, back in the 1950s, he asked the tough-minded General Curtis LeMay for access to UFO files. LeMay’s response was a firm, “Hell no. And don’t ask me again.”
I also suspect footage of Mac Brazel has been recycled numerous times since then—he looks a bit bewildered in it.
And there’s a humorous line from Bruce Maccabee, who sadly passed away last year: “…they are not mating mutton-birds…”
Thanks for sharing this nostalgic look back at an OG UFO documentary! It’s fascinating to think about how far our access to information has come since then. It must have been a treasure trove for a suburban teen to discover all those intriguing stories before the internet made such content so easily accessible.
The quote from Barry Goldwater is a classic—it’s wild to think about the tension surrounding UFO phenomena even back then. And yes, the way Mac Brazel appears in the footage definitely makes for some amusing moments; it’s interesting how people react to these phenomena in such different ways.
Bruce Maccabee always brought a distinct and often humorous perspective to the field of ufology, and that quote about the “mating mutton-birds” is a great example of his unique style! It’s these quirks and characters that make these documentaries so memorable. I’ll have to check out the link you shared; I love revisiting those older pieces to see how the narratives have evolved over the years. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
