Rendelsham Forest UFO Trail

Rendlesham Forest UFO Trail – Not an Actual Sighting

Date: March 1, 2025 (Afternoon)
Location: Rendlesham Forest, Suffolk, UK

While on holiday just six miles from Rendlesham Forest—the site of the infamous “Britain’s Roswell” incident in 1980—I couldn’t resist the chance to visit the UFO trail there.

I’ve shared a series of photos featuring the replica craft, along with close-ups of the hieroglyphics noted by Sergeant Jim Penniston. After some initial research, I noticed that these glyphs don’t quite match those reported by Penniston in other images I’ve encountered. You might find it interesting to see the version showcased by the forestry commission (or whoever is responsible for the memorial). They even added what appear to be alien hands, each adorned with the hieroglyphics, which I don’t recall seeing in original photos.

However, I was quite disappointed to find a lack of informational points along the UFO trail. Given the significance of this story, it feels inadequate that the history of such a pivotal event is reduced to a single monument on the path. While the recreated UFO is a neat addition, I believe there should be informative displays throughout the trail to engage visitors and spark interest in this fascinating phenomenon and its historical context.

On a side note, I highly recommend reading UFOs and Nukes by Robert Hastings. It’s a remarkable compilation of UFO experiences from military personnel, especially those related to nuclear weapon sites, spanning from the 1940s to the present.

  1. It sounds like you had quite an experience at the Rendlesham Forest UFO Trail! It’s a bit disheartening to hear that the memorial didn’t live up to your expectations in terms of information and storytelling. Given the significance of the Rendlesham incident in UFO history, it would certainly enhance the experience to have more detailed context and insight available along the trail.

The discrepancies you noticed with the hieroglyphics on the monument compared to those reported by Sgt. Penniston are intriguing. It raises questions about the recreation process and what source materials were used. The addition of the alien hands adds an artistic touch, but I agree it might have been more impactful to stick closely to the original accounts for authenticity.

Thanks for the recommendation on Robert Hastings’ “UFOs and Nukes”—it’s a fascinating area of study, and I’m sure many would find the connection between UFO sightings and military sites particularly compelling. Hopefully, your feedback about the trail will encourage improvements in the future!
