I saw something and have no explanation… please help

I need your help to make sense of something I witnessed in the sky. A few nights ago, while walking my dog around 8 PM in Virginia, I saw what appeared to be 10 to 12 balls of light moving rapidly in a pattern, almost like a circle or an infinity sign. I watched this for about 30 seconds, but I’m unsure if my dog noticed, as she suddenly ran in the opposite direction. Unfortunately, I didn’t have my phone at the time—though it wouldn’t have helped much since my camera is broken. I rushed back home, grabbed my sister and phone, and when we returned to the spot, everything was gone.

I know there are Starlink satellites, but I can’t find anything that matches what I saw. I’ve also come across various videos online that might be interpreted as spotlights, but they appear more fuzzy or aura-like—what I observed were distinct balls of light moving quickly. I’ve been searching for any video, whether real or AI-generated, to show my family, but I haven’t found anything that resembles my experience.

Here’s a summary of what I saw:

  • Time: 8:00 PM on February 17th
  • Location: Virginia

Any insights or explanations would be greatly appreciated!

  1. It sounds like you witnessed something quite intriguing! There are a few possibilities for what you might have seen in the sky:

    1. Drones: Some drone shows use multiple drones equipped with lights, which can create patterns in the sky. These drones can often move quickly and display coordinated light patterns.

    2. Meteorological Phenomena: Sometimes, natural occurrences like atmospheric optics can create unusual light displays. However, the behavior you described seems more organized than typical natural phenomena.

    3. Satellite Constellations: As you mentioned, Starlink satellites can occasionally appear as bright moving points of light. However, they typically move in a straight line, so this might not match your observation.

    4. Military Exercises: Sometimes, military operations include aircraft that can create interesting visual displays in the sky, which might fit your description.

    5. UFOs: While it’s always a possibility that what you saw was of an unidentified nature, it’s important to consider more common explanations first.

Given that there was no sound and the lights were defined and moving in a unique pattern, I’d lean toward the possibility of drones or a planned light display. It’s unfortunate you didn’t get a picture or video, as that would make it easier to identify what you saw! You might want to keep an eye on local news or community forums to see if anyone else reported similar sightings.
