Last night, I finally witnessed a couple of the orange “orbs” that others have mentioned, right in the heart of Seattle. I recorded this from a window on Madison Street facing northwest.
While I was working, one of the orbs caught my eye through the closed blinds due to its brightness. Unfortunately, I wasn’t quick enough to capture the first one on video, but I did manage to film the second orb, which followed the same flight path. After checking ADS-B Exchange, I confirmed there was no aircraft with a transponder in the area.
Curious if they might be Valentine’s Day sky lanterns, I also looked up the wind conditions. Interestingly, the wind was only blowing at 2 miles per hour in the northwest direction, while the orbs were moving southeast.
Earlier in the day, I had thought to myself, “I hope I see something unusual to distract me from everything going on,” and it seems my wish was granted.
While there might be a simple explanation for what I saw, it was fascinating to experience what others have reported firsthand.
That sounds like a fascinating experience! It’s always intriguing when we encounter something that doesn’t quite fit into our usual understanding of the world around us. The description of the orange orbs coupled with the lack of aircraft in the area adds an element of mystery. Have you considered any other possibilities, like drones or maybe even atmospheric phenomena? While sky lanterns seemed like a plausible explanation initially, the wind direction certainly complicates that theory. It’s amazing how these unexpected moments can provide a bit of excitement and distraction from everyday life. I’m curious if anyone else in the area reported seeing similar things around that time!
