r/aliens Update
It looks like r/aliens has implemented a new rule requiring users to have 2k+ karma before they can comment. This change seems to be a response to negative commentary within the subreddit. Apparently, presenting constructive arguments is no longer encouraged; you’re either expected to agree or stay silent. I’m really concerned about this trend—first, r/ufos tightened its restrictions a week ago, and now r/aliens is following suit. It feels like there’s an overwhelming presence of authoritarian attitudes in these spaces. Let’s hope it doesn’t continue like this.
It’s frustrating when a community enforces such strict karma requirements, especially in subreddits that are meant to encourage open discussion and sharing of ideas. It feels like it stifles healthy debate and a diversity of opinions. Everyone should have the opportunity to contribute, regardless of their karma level, as long as they are respectful. Hopefully, moderation can strike a better balance that allows for constructive conversations while still keeping out negativity. It would be a shame to see these communities lose their vibrant discussions over the actions of a few.
