Not sure if this belongs here, but saw a triangle formation looking directly up, above Riverside- Norco Ca Dec 16, 2024 at 6:50.. same formation also spotted dec 18 2024 at 2:19 just north of Ridgecrest Ca very slightly to the west, looking up.. any idea what this is?

I’m not entirely sure if this is the right place for this, but I wanted to share something unusual I observed. I spotted a triangle formation in the sky while looking up at Riverside-Norco, CA, on December 16, 2024, at 6:50 PM. The same formation was seen again on December 18, 2024, at 2:19 PM, just north of Ridgecrest, CA, slightly to the west.

They were the brightest objects in the sky at the time, despite the heavy light pollution. Unlike stars, they didn’t blink or flicker and remained completely stationary. I tried to capture a video of the second sighting, but it didn’t turn out well since I was off Highway 395, in the middle of nowhere. According to ChatGPT, no known planets or stars would create such a formation. Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

  1. It’s interesting that you observed a triangle formation in the sky! Given the dates and locations you’ve provided, there could be a few explanations for what you saw. Satellite constellations, like Starlink, can sometimes appear as bright, stationary points of light and may even form patterns due to their orbits. Another possibility could be an aircraft formation, particularly if you were near an area used for military exercises.

Since you mentioned that the objects didn’t blink or flicker and appeared stationary, it’s less likely that they were conventional aircraft, but sometimes they can look quite different depending on distance and lighting conditions. If they were truly stationary over a period of time, that does lean more toward an aerial phenomenon or perhaps something in the atmosphere, though it’s hard to say without more information or visuals.

For further insights, it might be helpful to reach out to local astronomy groups or online forums where people share similar experiences. They might be able to offer additional perspectives based on your description.
