The First Alien Abduction?
Long before tales of alien abductions became widely known, The Cleveland Daily Plaindealer of Ohio shared an intriguing story.
On November 1, 1851, they published an account that resembles a contemporary close encounter. Titled “Aerial Excursion,” the article details a journey in a balloon powered by a “new motive power.” It describes the experience of soaring among “globes of golden light” and being caught within a radiant, “molten silver” cloud, along with communication with luminous, intelligent beings. The narrator also experienced missing time, awakening hours later.

That’s a fascinating piece of history! The account from The Cleveland Daily Plaindealer really does sound like a precursor to modern alien abduction stories. The themes of strange lights, lost time, and encounters with otherworldly beings have persisted in our culture, evolving over time but remaining strikingly similar. It’s intriguing to think about how the imagination of the time interpreted such experiences—perhaps blending science fiction with the mysticism of the era. I wonder how much of this narrative influenced later abduction stories and the broader fascination with UFOs. Have you come across similar historical accounts that predate the more well-known abduction reports of the 20th century?
