Description of the Sighting: While on a walk and chatting with my girlfriend about how clear the sky was, I was admiring the moon and Jupiter when something caught my eye. Beneath the moon (positioned mid-high in the west), I spotted a series of three dim lights arranged in a straight line.
Suddenly, this object swooped down and accelerated north at an incredible speed. In less than 1.5 seconds, it executed a sharp 270° turn before shooting straight up into the sky at a nearly vertical angle, vanishing into the night.
As I screamed, “WHAT THE HECK IS THAT?” into the phone, I quickly dismissed several explanations. I wondered if it might be a jet, but the night was eerily silent, and I could distinctly hear distant aircraft. A drone? No way—it couldn’t make those kinds of maneuvers.
