Large drone spotted near border with PNG as Chinese warships passed nearby (ABC News)

A sizable drone has been seen near the border with Papua New Guinea as Chinese warships sailed nearby, according to ABC News. Last week, I shared a post regarding the Chinese Navy’s fleet circling Australia and the possibility of drone sightings. That post was removed after the government attributed the significant diversion of commercial air traffic around the naval group to live-fire exercises.

However, it now seems that the fleet was, in fact, deploying drones that closely resemble those observed over the US and UK in recent months.

  1. It’s intriguing to see how closely these developments are being monitored, especially given the rising tensions in the region. The sighting of the large drone near the PNG border coinciding with Chinese warships raises several questions about military activities and intentions. It’s concerning when commercial air traffic is diverted due to such military exercises, and it amplifies the need for transparency in these situations.

The resemblance of these drones to those seen in the US and UK could suggest a broader trend in military capabilities and surveillance tactics. It might be worth considering how these encounters could affect diplomatic relations and regional security. Do you think there will be any official responses from the Australian government regarding these sightings, or will they continue to downplay the situation?
