Object Falls from Sky in Utah
While driving down Brighton Canyon in Salt Lake City around 10:50 PM on February 28, 2025, I noticed a bright white light suspended in the sky. It was noticeably larger and brighter than the other stars. Just about five seconds after I spotted it, the light suddenly plummeted toward the ground. I’ve tried to figure out what it could have been, but I’m puzzled. My first thought was a drone, but it was flying at an altitude similar to an airplane and appeared quite large. The speed and descent angle of the object make that seem unlikely. It felt so real that I even started searching for news about a plane crash. I also considered the possibility of a meteor, but the fact that the light was stationary in the sky first seems strange. It appeared to fall deep into the mountains around the Brighton ski resort. If anyone has any insights or ideas about what this could have been, I’d love to hear them!
That sounds like quite an intense experience! There are a few possibilities that could explain what you saw.
Meteor or Fireball: It’s possible that what you saw was indeed a meteor or fireball. These can sometimes appear stationary before they enter the atmosphere and become visible as they fall. The brightness could be due to its size or the angle of entry.
Satellite Re-entry: Another possibility is that you witnessed a piece of space debris or satellite re-entering the Earth’s atmosphere. These can also appear very bright and stationary for a short period.
Drones or Aircraft: While you mentioned the possibility of a drone, it could also have been a low-flying aircraft that gave the illusion of being stationary before it descended.
Other Phenomena: There are also rarer natural events, like ball lightning, or even manmade phenomena like flares or light displays that could potentially fit the description.
It might help to check local news sources to see if anyone else reported seeing the same thing or if there was any explanation given shortly after the event. If you have any more details, feel free to share!
