Strange Sighting in the Sky
One summer night in 2023, my unit was deep in a two-week training exercise at Fort Johnson, LA, and we were nearing the end of it—about 90% through. It was around 3 AM, and while all the squads from my platoon were out on reconnaissance, it was just me and my RTO hanging back at the combat casualty care point. I know it sounds odd, but we had no security at that moment.
I was using my ruck as a makeshift pillow to ease my back and neck after a grueling day of treating casualties. With my night vision goggles flipped up, I was gazing at the night sky when suddenly I saw a dotted line stretch across the entire horizon from left to right. I leaned forward, blinked a few times, and that line was still there. It lasted maybe a second, but it left me in shock. I quietly exclaimed, “What the…?”
I turned to my RTO to ask if he had seen it, but he was busy talking on the radio. At this point, I was starting to freak out. It was 3 AM, I was exhausted, and the last thing I wanted was to see some creepy alien peeking out from behind a tree. I was on high alert that night but didn’t mention it to anyone else; I figured no one would believe my bizarre story.
As time went on and we wrapped up the field exercise, I asked a few friends about it. Most of them shrugged it off, saying, “Oh, it was probably just Starlink.” But I know what I saw—I’ve seen Starlink, and it moves way slower than what I experienced. This looked more like someone dragging a cursor across the sky. There’s no chance it was a bug or a drone; it was clearly far away.
To this day, I haven’t found any explanation for what I witnessed, and whenever I search online, it’s all just Starlink references. Has anyone else experienced something similar?
P.S. CIA, please don’t come after me!
That sounds intense! It’s always a bit unsettling to see something unusual in the night sky, especially when you’re out in the field and already on edge. Your description of the line being drawn across the sky really adds to the mystery. It’s interesting that you ruled out Starlink and drones, especially given how fast and distinct that line seemed to be.
I wonder if it could have been some sort of atmospheric phenomenon or even a reflection of something on the ground or in the air. There are all kinds of weird light displays that can happen in the night sky, and sometimes our brains can play tricks on us when we’re exhausted.
It’s also not uncommon for military personnel to see strange things during exercises—whether it’s equipment testing or just the oddities of the environment. You might not be alone in your experience; there are plenty of people who have reported similar sightings. If you come across anyone who has been in a similar situation, I’d love to hear about it! Also, stay safe out there!
