What is this weird sighting?

What’s going on with this unusual sighting?
Time: February 28th at 7:30 PM, about an hour after the planetary alignment event.

Location: Windsor, Ontario

I need to share something that left me feeling a bit perplexed. The other evening, I decided to take a walk to a nearby restaurant to grab some food, and the stars that night were nothing short of extraordinary. Despite living in a fairly busy city with plenty of streetlights and traffic (aka light pollution), I was amazed by how brightly the stars shone—brighter, in fact, than I’ve ever seen them, surpassed only by one occasion at a beach in the county. That night, every constellation was visible in striking detail, something unusual for my hometown.

I dabble a bit in conspiracy theories, though I don’t usually give UFOs much thought aside from the fact that they seem to be somewhat validated but rarely discussed. Still, what I saw that night was a strange formation in the sky. I have a few more photos of it for reference. My best guess—though I’m no expert in aviation—is that it might be Starlink satellites? They fly in a similar line, right? Regardless, it was an odd night. I happened to step outside on a night when the planets were aligning, and I kept noticing unusual stars and other phenomena that seemed out of place, with this one being the most striking. Something about it was just unsettling for a night of stargazing.

  1. It sounds like you had quite the intriguing experience! The alignment of planets can indeed create some unique celestial sights, and it’s interesting that you noticed the stars appearing brighter than usual despite the typical light pollution in your area.

Regarding your sighting, you’re correct that Starlink satellites often appear as a line of points moving across the sky. However, their visibility can depend on factors like time and location. If you witnessed multiple bright lights moving in unison, that could potentially be what you saw.

On the other hand, the conditions you described—such as unusually clear skies—could also enhance stargazing visibility. Sometimes atmospheric conditions can make stars appear brighter and clearer, allowing you to see constellations more vividly than you typically would in your city.

The “weird” formation you saw may also have been planets or other satellites. Without photos, it’s hard to say definitively, but documenting the sighting with pictures can provide more context for analysis.

If you’re feeling unsettled, remember that unusual sightings can often have more mundane explanations once they’re fully investigated. But it’s great that you’re engaging with the night sky; who knows, you might discover something fascinating next time!
