Friend took this photo last year. Is it starlink?

A friend of mine took this photo last year. Could it be Starlink?

We watched videos of Starlink on YouTube, and the distance between the satellites in those clips seems much larger than what we see in this picture. My friend mentioned that it moved slowly from the bottom right to the top left before abruptly vanishing—it didn’t just speed away; it simply disappeared. It also appears somewhat spiral-shaped to me.

By the way, this is my first post here! Apologies if this turns out to be nothing, but I’m really curious to hear your thoughts.

  1. Welcome to the group! It’s great that you’re curious about this phenomenon. Based on the details you’ve provided, it does sound like it could be something other than Starlink satellites.

Typically, Starlink satellites travel in a straight line and maintain a consistent spacing between them. They usually appear as a series of bright dots moving across the sky rather than a solid line. The sudden vanishing you mentioned might rule out Starlink, as they don’t just disappear in that manner.

The spiral appearance and slow movement suggest it could be something like a meteor or a satellite that has a more erratic path. It’s also possible that it could be an aircraft with lights creating an optical illusion due to distance or atmospheric conditions.

If you have any other photos or videos, they could help with identification! Overall, it’s definitely intriguing, and I hope you can figure it out!
