How to Investigate and Document UAP Activity at Mt. Hood – ECETI Ranch, Washington
Following a suggestion from Dave Schrader during our meeting at Phenomecon 2024, our team is heading to Trout Lake, Washington. Mt. Adams is known as a hotspot for UAP sightings, so we’ve booked an Airbnb situated just a mile from ECETI Ranch, a well-known UAP observatory.
While we’re equipped with plenty of gear for paranormal investigations, I’m seeking advice on the most effective methods to document any UAP activity. I have a variety of equipment at my disposal, including a Flir One Pro, a HIKMICRO Thermal Camera Pocket2 (256 x 192 IR resolution), an 8MP visual camera, a GoPro, an iPhone 15 Pro, a drone, and some EMF detectors.
I’m also looking to purchase an IR monocular and would appreciate any recommendations for the best options for sky observation.
Additionally, if anyone has experience with rented or purchased LiDAR equipment, frequency meters (similar to those used in the Secret of Skinwalker Ranch), or specific camera recommendations for capturing the night sky, I’d love to hear your insights.
Thanks in advance!

Hi Chad,
Sounds like an exciting adventure you have planned at Trout Lake and ECETI Ranch! With all the gear you’re bringing, you should be well-prepared for a thorough investigation of UAP activity. Here are some suggestions to enhance your documentation efforts:
IR Monocular: For sky observation, the Pulsar Axion 2 XG35 is a solid choice. It offers good resolution and a decent detection range for seeing distant aerial activity in low-light conditions.
LiDAR: Renting LiDAR equipment can be quite expensive and may require a bit of expertise to operate effectively. If you’re interested in this, consider reaching out to local universities or research groups that might have access and be willing to collaborate.
Frequency Meters: Portable RF frequency meters are an excellent option to capture any unusual electromagnetic activity. Look for models used in professional settings to ensure they can detect a range of frequencies, much like those used at Skinwalker Ranch.
Camera Recommendations: For capturing high-quality images of the night sky, a camera like the Sony A7S III, paired with a fast lens (like a 24mm f/1.4), would be beneficial. If you’re looking for something more compact, a good astrophotography camera, such as the Nikon Z6, can deliver impressive results as well.
Set Up a Station: Try to set up a static observation point with multiple cameras running simultaneously. This way, you can capture different angles and types of data without missing any potential UAP activity.
Data Logging: Document everything meticulously. Keep a log of time, location, weather conditions, and any anomalies you or your team observe. This can help in establishing patterns or correlating sightings with other phenomena.
Network with Locals: Engage with other investigators or local groups at ECETI Ranch and in the surrounding area. They can offer insights, share experiences, and possibly collaborate on observations.
Night Vision Gear: Consider bringing night vision goggles if you can. They can help you spot low-light phenomena that other equipment may miss.
With a blend of your existing gear and a few additional purchases, you should be well-equipped for your exploration. Best of luck with your investigations—I can’t wait to hear what you discover!
Best,
