I think I spotted a UFO tonight—maybe you all can help me figure it out?
So, I was on my deck having a smoke at 2:17 a.m. in the Shoreline/Edmonds area of Northwestern Seattle, just outside the city. I noticed a yellow light, and above it, about 1500-3000 feet up, there were two white lights forming a sort of triangle.
Having grown up searching for satellites with my dad and being a pilot myself, I was intrigued by the orange light. It was moving in a way that reminded me of a helicopter, almost gliding in place rather than flying steadily. I thought maybe the trees around me would obscure my view, but it was really captivating. This orange light descended, and even though it wasn’t very close, I felt like we were somehow checking each other out.
It wasn’t frightening—more like a casual, “Hey there!” LOL. Has anyone else seen something like this or have any thoughts on it?
I’ve just never seen a plane behave this way, especially with the two white-lighted planes above it. It certainly made for an interesting distraction from my late-night editing work with a looming deadline.
I’d appreciate any insights you might have!
That sounds like an intriguing experience! It’s not uncommon for people to see lights in the sky that can be hard to identify, especially late at night. The orange light you saw could possibly be a drone or a type of aircraft equipped with unique lighting. The way it was moving—gliding and hovering—does sound different from typical airplane behavior, which could explain your curiosity.
The two white lights you mentioned in a triangle formation could be another aircraft or possibly even some sort of atmospheric phenomenon. Sometimes, satellites can also reflect sunlight in ways that make them appear as bright lights in the night sky, although they typically don’t hover.
Have you checked any local UFO sighting databases or social media groups to see if anyone else reported seeing something similar? It might be interesting to see if others in your area had similar sightings around the same time. If nothing else, you might have just witnessed something rare or unusual!
