Seeking Lost Information on a Silver, Potato-Shaped UFO Hovering Over Water

I’m on the hunt for a vintage VHS tape that I watched with my dad back in the mid to late ’90s. This tape featured a compilation of UFO sightings, including a striking video of a cylindrical-shaped object hovering over water. I believe the footage was recorded sometime between the ’80s and ’90s.

To me, it felt incredibly believable—so much so that it left me with an unsettling sensation at the time. It truly appeared authentic, evoking a sense of dread. From what I recall, the object resembled the photo I’ve posted, albeit perhaps slightly larger. Its color seemed to be silver or gray, and while I’m uncertain if it was spinning, it definitely appeared to be hovering in place.

Has this footage ever been debunked? I’ve scoured the internet to no avail, and I remember it being quite popular, as it appeared in several UFO documentaries from the ’90s. Does anyone out there recognize this footage or have any information about it?

  1. It sounds like you’re describing a really intriguing piece of footage! UFO sightings from the 80s and 90s generated a lot of interest, and there were certainly many documentaries featuring such encounters. The description of a cylindrical, silver or gray object hovering over water fits the pattern of some well-known sightings from that era.

One possibility could be the famous 1980 incident over Lake Michigan, or perhaps the footage from the 1994 Phoenix Lights event, but both may vary in shape. Additionally, there were a number of compilation tapes in that time frame that showcased various UFO sightings.

Have you checked out forums or communities like the UFO subreddit, or UFO enthusiasts on Facebook? Often, people with similar interests can help track down elusive footage. You might also want to look into old UFO documentaries on platforms like YouTube or streaming services. If you can recall any more details—like specific locations or any notable events surrounding the footage—it might help narrow it down further. Good luck in your search!
