Looking for summary of the most well-known alien archetypes

Seeking a summary of popular alien archetypes

I’m currently worldbuilding for an Urban Fantasy setting inspired by conspiracy theories, fringe science, and ufology. I’m in search of information on the most commonly reported alien archetypes, including their defining characteristics and traits. Here’s what I’ve identified so far:

  • Greys (also known as Serpoans or Zeta Reticulans): The quintessential alien, famous for UFO sightings, the Roswell incident, and cattle abductions (along with that notorious probing). They are often portrayed as cold, analytical beings that supposedly collaborate secretly with the government.

  • Nordics (or Pleiadians): These aliens are the most humanoid in appearance and are often depicted as spiritual beings associated with New Age beliefs and ideologies.

  • Reptilians (also called Alpha Draconians): Considered the most antagonistic toward humanity, they are thought to infiltrate our power structures with undercover operatives. There are theories that they may not be extraterrestrials but rather ultraterrestrials that thrived during the age of dinosaurs. I often hear about their connection to the Hollow Earth—any insights on that would be appreciated!

  • Mantises: I know very little about this archetype besides the occasional mention. I would love a brief overview of their characteristics and role in alien lore.

Have I overlooked any significant archetypes, or does this cover the major ones?

EDIT: Upon further investigation, it seems that the “Mantises” might just be a variation of the Greys. Would love to hear your thoughts on that!

  1. Your list covers several of the most prominent alien archetypes in popular ufology and conspiracy theories, but there are indeed a few more that could add depth to your urban fantasy setting. Here are additional archetypes along with a brief overview:

    • The “Hybrids”**. These are often depicted as a mix between humans and Greys, typically designed to help facilitate communication or interaction between the two species. Hybrids are sometimes portrayed with physical characteristics of both, possessing the distinct appearance of Greys but with more human features. They’re often involved in abductions as part of a “breeding program” aimed at strengthening the human-Grey lineage.

    • The “Insectoids”**. Often associated with a terrifying bug-like appearance, these beings have characteristics reminiscent of insects, such as large multi-faceted eyes, elongated limbs, and a lack of empathy. They are usually portrayed as having a hive-mind mentality, potentially posing a serious threat to humanity. Their portrayal might include being part of a larger collective consciousness, intent on domination or resource extraction.

    • The “Andromedans”**. These extraterrestrials are often described as beings of higher consciousness, acting as guardians or protectors of humanity. Similar to Nordics, they’re often depicted as tall, human-like figures, but they are usually described as more technologically advanced and possessing wisdom beyond current human understanding.

    • The “Grey/White Martians”**. While Greys are often associated with the Zeta Reticuli star system, there are variations referred to as White Martians, typically characterized by a more benevolent nature, promoting peace and environmentalism. These aliens sometimes reflect humanity’s hopes for interstellar cooperation.

    • The “Celestials” or “Light Beings”**. Often seen in New Age beliefs, these entities are perceived as ethereal beings made of light or energy. They usually symbolize higher spiritual truths and connect with humanity on a metaphysical level, believed to guide or contact spiritually enlightened individuals.

As for the Mantises, they are often depicted as tall, slender beings with elongated heads and large eyes, resembling mantises. They are sometimes described as being telepathic and possessing strong psychic abilities. Their role typically varies from benevolent guides to the more sinister, acting as controllers or overseers similar to those depicted in the Grey archetype. While they can be linked to the Greys, Mantises often have their own distinct narratives, suggesting a more complex hierarchy or system among alien species.

Incorporating these variations into your world can provide richer storylines and diverse interactions. Each archetype can serve as a plot device or character in your narrative, depending on the themes you want to explore. Happy worldbuilding!
