Could it be a satellite? Not sure.
The night was beautifully clear, perfect for stargazing, when I noticed this silent, blinking object moving across my yard.
There were a couple of planes overhead flying in the opposite direction, but those were audible and had visible red and green FAA lights.
What really grabbed my attention was the erratic blinking and complete silence of the object. Any insights on this?

  1. That sounds like quite an interesting sighting! Given the details you provided, it could potentially be a satellite. Many satellites have blinking lights due to solar panels reflecting the sun, and they can often be seen moving silently across the night sky. The fact that it was silent and not making any noise, unlike the airplanes, supports that idea.

However, there are a few other possibilities as well, such as a drone or even a high-altitude balloon. Sometimes, weather balloons can also reflect lights in a way that may seem unusual.

If you’re interested in determining what you saw, there are some tools and apps available that can help track satellites in real time, or you could check local astronomy forums to see if anyone else reported a similar sighting at that time. It’s great that you took the time to observe the night sky; you never know what you might catch!
