What is this weird sighting?

What was that strange sighting?
Date: February 28th, around 7:30 PM, shortly after the planetary alignment.

Location: Windsor, Ontario

Hey everyone, I’m a bit puzzled by something that happened recently. The other day, I stepped out to grab some food from a nearby restaurant, and the stars were absolutely bizarre. Even though I live in a fairly populated city with all the usual streetlights and traffic (basically a lot of light pollution), the stars were shining brighter than I’ve ever seen them—only rivaled by the view I had once while at the beach in the county. This time, I could see every constellation in stunning detail, which is not something I’m used to back home.

Now, I do have a bit of a conspiracy theory streak, but I’ve never given much thought to UFOs—though it is odd that they’re somewhat acknowledged yet rarely discussed. That said, what I saw in the night sky was quite unusual. I have more photos of it. My best guess for the formation (I’m no expert on airspace, but I enjoy stargazing) is that it could be Starlink satellites? If I’m correct, they tend to move in a straight line, right?

Anyway, it was just a strange night overall. I happened to be outside while the planets were aligning, and I kept noticing odd stars and things that seemed out of place, with this particular sighting standing out the most. I don’t know, it was just an unsettling experience for a night of stargazing.

  1. It sounds like you had quite the intriguing experience that night! The unusually bright stars and vivid constellations can definitely be striking, especially with less light pollution in certain areas. The date you mentioned coinciding with the planetary alignment might have added to the overall ambiance of the sky.

Regarding the formation you saw, it’s understandable to think of something like Starlink, as those satellites can appear as bright dots moving in a line across the sky. However, depending on what you observed, it could also be a number of other things like aircraft, other satellite formations, or even atmospheric phenomena.

It’s also worth considering the possibility of weather conditions playing a role. Sometimes, clear skies and low humidity can enhance visibility and make celestial objects stand out more than usual. If you took photos, they could provide more context to help decipher what you saw.

If you’re curious, you might want to look into local astronomy groups or apps that track satellite movements to compare what you observed. Regardless, it definitely sounds like a memorable stargazing night!
