What’s that?

What are these lights?

Hi there! I’m curious if anyone can help identify some lights I saw recently. They were drifting slowly from right to left, then would suddenly vanish and reappear in another location. They didn’t seem to be an airplane, drones, or flares in my opinion.

(Apologies for the poor quality of the video!)

  1. It sounds like you may have witnessed something quite intriguing! The behavior you described—lights moving slowly from one side to the other and then disappearing and reappearing—could be attributed to a few different sources. Here are some possibilities to consider:

    1. Satellites: Some satellites can appear as bright moving lights in the sky, especially shortly after sunset or before sunrise. They can move across the sky quickly and may seem to appear and disappear as they move into and out of sunlight.

    2. Weather Balloons: Weather balloons can also have lights and may drift slowly with the wind, which could explain the movement and the disappearing/reappearing act.

    3. Chinese Lanterns: If there was a celebration or event, people might be releasing lanterns that drift away slowly into the night sky.

    4. Stargazing or Aircraft Lights: Sometimes the lights of an aircraft can appear stationary or moving slowly depending on your viewpoint and atmospheric conditions, especially if it’s at a high altitude.

    5. Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs): If none of the above explanations fit, it’s possible that you encountered something more unusual.

It would be helpful to gather more specific information like how fast the lights were moving, how many there were, and any color changes you noticed. Additionally, checking local news or social media for similar sightings around that time may provide more context.
