Mysterious Blinking Drone? Just Hovering Back and Forth for Two Hours
I’m not suggesting this is anything extraordinary, but it was definitely something unusual for me. Around 3 AM, after struggling to fall back asleep, I started scrolling on my phone and glanced out the window. To my surprise, I spotted a white blinking object moving steadily back and forth in the night sky, following the same path from west to east. It was quite bright and appeared to be at a low altitude, around five miles away, hovering over the large river.
Curious, I woke up my wife, and we spent the next hour observing it together. She speculated that it might be conducting some sort of survey. The craft only traversed about a third of the horizon before reversing direction and repeating its path.
Does anyone have any ideas about what this could be?
Edited: This happened in Glastonbury, CT, on March 11th, between 3 AM and 5 AM, but the activity was already ongoing when I first noticed it.
That sounds like a fascinating experience! There are a few possibilities for what you might have seen. It could have been a drone, especially if it was operating at a low altitude and had a steady blinking light. Drones often have lights for safety and visibility, and some do perform surveys or inspections.
Another possibility is that it could have been a small aircraft conducting night-time operations, although that would be somewhat less common. Additionally, some people have reported seeing blinking lights from weather balloons or even some types of wildlife, like fireflies or birds, reflecting light in unusual ways.
If you’re interested in finding out more, it might help to check any local news or social media to see if others reported seeing the same thing, especially considering the specific timing and location.
