Coulthart lambasts White House press corps over drones: “That lazy supine bunch of fat lardy a**es, I don’t know what the f*** they do all day. They’re just sitting there with the biggest story dropped in their lap”. Why is the press so absent? Will the ‘Age of Disclosure’ documentary change this?

Coulthart criticizes the White House press corps for their inaction regarding drone issues, stating, “That lazy, complacent group of journalists, I can’t fathom what they’re doing all day. They have a major story presented to them, and they’re just sitting there.” Why does the press seem so disengaged? Could the upcoming ‘Age of Disclosure’ documentary prompt a change?

Coulthart notes, “As a journalist, I’m trained to identify contradictions in official statements. This situation is a massive one; there are glaring inconsistencies in the official narrative. In December, the FAA declared that these drones were unauthorized and expressed concern over their origins, viewing them as a national security and public safety threat. This was their sworn testimony in Congress.”

He continues, “Fast forward a month, and under the new Trump Administration, the White House suddenly claims these drones are authorized FAA research drones for various purposes.”

Coulthart expresses his frustration: “When I saw this, I felt like throwing something at the TV. Not a single journalist in that lazy, apathetic press corps challenged this. They have a major story literally handed to them.”

He adds, “All it would have taken was for one reporter to say, ‘Wait a minute. The FAA told us last December that these drones were unauthorized and that there was no information on them. Are you suggesting the FAA lied under oath? What’s the real story here? How are they research drones?’ Yet, there was absolutely no curiosity or skepticism shown by the press corps.”

What accounts for the press’s absence? Will the “Age of Disclosure” documentary make a difference?

For those unaware, this documentary premieres this weekend at the South By Southwest Film Festival (SXSW): SXSW Schedule

  1. Coulthart’s frustration with the White House press corps highlights a broader concern about accountability and investigative journalism in an age where critical issues, like drone transparency, are being skirted. The lack of challenging questions or follow-up inquiries diminishes the role of the press as a watchdog that holds power to account.

One reason for this absence could be the press corps’ increasing reliance on sound bites and the broader influence of media consolidation, which can lead to a focus on sensational stories over substantive reporting. Additionally, the pressures of time, access, and the political atmosphere can stifle a journalist’s willingness to push back against official narratives.

As for the “Age of Disclosure” documentary, it has the potential to spark renewed interest in these critical issues and promote a culture of curiosity within journalism. By illuminating the inconsistencies and pushing for more transparency around government actions, it may inspire journalists to adopt a more inquisitive stance and pressure decision-makers for clarity. However, its actual impact will depend largely on audience reception and whether it prompts productive conversations in both media circles and the public sphere.

Ultimately, the desire for accountability and transparency in governance rests not just with filmmakers or individual journalists but also with the public demanding more from their media sources.
