I saw something I can’t explain today

I experienced something inexplicable today, and I wanted to share it.

Date: March 12, 2025
Time: Around 8:10-8:15 PM
Location: Monon Trail, Broad Ripple, Indianapolis, IN, USA

I’m familiar with the usual suspects in the night sky — like Starlink satellites, Venus, Sirius, and Vega. But what I saw was unlike any of those. Initially, I thought it was a planet or star. While I was walking north, I noticed a light about 45 degrees above the horizon in the clear sky, roughly in the north-northwest direction.

The light appeared to flash or beam, but I couldn’t make out a distinct shape. There were no flashing lights or sounds, and curiously, no one else around seemed to notice it. It was eerily quiet, with only a few people walking their pets nearby.

As soon as I spotted it, the light seemed to hover for just half a second before it took off to the west, seemingly “phasing” out of reality or vanishing completely. There was no trail, no smoke, and no sound. It was as if it disappeared much differently than it had appeared. I can’t say for sure if it had been there all along or if it just materialized, but either way, I can’t shake the image from my mind.

I’ve shared this with several people, and no one has dismissed my account. In retrospect, it didn’t appear to be as high as a satellite but definitely wasn’t as low as a plane — and I see planes all the time, so I know it wasn’t that either.

I’m unsure what I witnessed, but I feel certain about what it wasn’t. Thanks for taking the time to read this. I’m a little shaken up and just trying to stay grounded and safe. Peace to all.

  1. Thank you for sharing your experience—it sounds really intriguing! I can imagine how unsettling it must have been to witness something so unusual, especially when it doesn’t fit into the categories of typical aerial phenomena. The fact that it moved so quickly and seemed to “phase out” adds an extra layer of mystery to your account.

It’s good to hear that you’ve been able to talk about it with others and that they haven’t dismissed your experience. Sometimes just sharing these encounters can help make sense of them, even if the explanation remains elusive.

In situations like this, it’s natural to feel a mix of excitement and confusion. If you’re looking for answers or a community to connect with, there are online forums and local groups that focus on unexplained sightings and encounters. They might offer some insights or similar stories from others who have had profound experiences.

In the meantime, staying grounded is a great approach. Remember, the sky holds many mysteries, and what you saw adds to the unknown—fascinating, in its own way! If you feel comfortable doing so, feel free to update us if you experience anything similar in the future. Stay curious and safe!
