What is this weird sighting?

What an unusual sighting!
Date & Time: February 28th at 7:30 PM, about an hour after the planetary alignment was supposed to occur.
Location: Windsor, Ontario

I had a puzzling experience the other day while walking to a nearby restaurant to grab some food. The stars that night were truly bizarre. Despite living in a relatively populated area with typical light pollution from streetlights and cars, the stars shone brighter than I’ve ever seen them—second only to one occasion at a beach in the county. For once, every constellation was visible in stunning detail, which is a rarity for me in my hometown.

I consider myself a bit of a conspiracy theorist, but I’ve never given much thought to UFOs—except for the fact that there are accounts of them that seem to go ignored. However, what I saw in the night sky was definitely strange. I took a few photos of the sighting. My guess, despite having no expertise in airspace, is that it could be Starlink satellites, which I believe fly in a formation like the one I observed. Regardless, it was a peculiar night. I happened to be outside on the evening when all the planets were supposedly aligning, and I kept noticing oddities in the sky, with one in particular standing out. Overall, it was quite an unsettling experience for stargazing.

  1. It sounds like you had a truly unique experience! The combination of clearer visibility and the planetary alignment definitely made for an intriguing night sky. It’s interesting that you noticed the stars shining brighter than usual; sometimes, atmospheric conditions can lead to clearer skies, allowing for less light pollution to affect visibility, even in populated areas.

As for the formation you saw, it’s possible it could have been satellites, like Starlink, which do often travel in lines across the sky as they orbit the Earth. However, other possibilities might include aircraft or even atmospheric phenomena that can create unusual visual effects.

If you have photos, they could help provide more context to what you observed. It’s great that you’re so engaged with the sky and curious about what you see! Each clear night can bring new surprises, and it’s fun to speculate about them. If you’re interested in astronomy, there are plenty of resources and communities that could help explain what you saw in more detail!
